The results of the annual Concours des Vins du Victoria will be announced during ourwine tasting evening on Thursday 26 November at Zinc at Federation Square. Every year more than 120 vineyards and wineries enter the competition and present some 450 different wines from all the wine-producing regions of Victoria - from the sought - after Pinot Noirs of the Mornington Peninsula and Gippsland, aromatic whites from the Alpine Valley, Chardonnays from the Bellarine Peninsula and the Mornington Peninsula, Cabernets from the Yarra Valley and Shiraz from Heathcote.

Indeed the tasting event is a rare opportunity for a discerning audience of wine lovers to enjoy a top drop. In 2008, it attracted a record crowd of over 600 guests, testament to its growing popularity.

The Concours des Vins du Victoria is a unique wine competition in Australia in that it involves a judging panel of French wine experts and commentators, including winemakers, sommeliers and wine importers who bring an incredible array of experience and knowledge. It is now a tradition to include the finalists from France’s Young Sommelier Competition on the judging panel as junior judges. Their French trained palate adds a unique perspective to the show.

Now in its 19th year, the Concours has become an established event on the Victorian wine calendar, attracting many vineyards, from small boutique operations to familyowned vineyards and much larger well-known wineries.

The wine tasting evening is a great opportunity to sample the award-winning wines as well as all the other wines entered in the show, while enjoying some beautiful French cheeses selected by Maitre Fromager Will Studd from Calendar Cheese Company and traditional French pâtés and charcuterie. Participating winemakers, our guest judges from France, and members of the judging panel attend the event so that guests can make the most of discussing and debating all things vinous with the experts!

The Concours des Vins is a wonderful showcase of the diversity and styles of Victorian wines. It is one of the Chamber’s most popular events and a must-attend for all enthusiastic wine and cheese lovers.
